![]() Jeff: Here is the info that I have saved from Mark in McKinney's trip reports... Info on the Iberostar Playa Paraiso from a conversation with Mr. Rafael Liebanas: "This resort is located between PDC and Porto Moreles on a deserted stretch of highway. Mr. L said he would be opening and running the resort, as he had done with the Playa Del Carmen resort. He said it would be much larger than PDC, maybe double, and that they were making a lot of improvements over the PDC resort. (this is hard for me to imagine, but after he told me what they were doing it made a lot of sense). He said there would be 5 specialty restaurants -- each one would be larger than the PDC resort's restaurants, and the themes will be as follows: Brazilian, Mediterranean, Steak House, Japanese, and Mexican. The buffets would all be made to order buffets and although they would be open air, they would be air conditioned. If you've ever been to PDC in the summer, this is a GOOD thing (even for a Texan). The new resort will have a large 2-story spa and workout facility with all state of the art weight training and cardio equipment -- in his words, "the best we can buy". The second story will have the spa rooms, steam rooms, etc… and a large sundeck overlooking the ocean. This building will be oceanfront. The resort will have the same disco, only larger, as PDC. In addition, there will be a "romantic" jazz-type starlight lounge thingy (not thongy) down near the beach that will be open late like the disco, but much more intimate and subdued than the disco -- nice touch. This will also be down by the beach. He said the beach will be wonderful -- one level, wide, swimmable, yet close to good snorkeling areas. There will also be a tram or train that runs the perimeter of the resort to carry guest around. The resort will have free shuttles to PDC. This resort is scheduled to open this year before the Holidays and he said they are committed to having it open by then. (when we drove by on the way back to the airport there must have been 2-300 workers waiting to get into the site). Good info. Nice guy. Apparently taking a lot of PDC's staff to the new resort, so it will most likely have the same feel as the PDC resort." Sandi in MN : does anyone have any info on the new iberostar currently under construction just north of playa del carmen? I hear its slated to open sometime this fall. thanks
