: We are going at the end of October for 1-year anniversary (the honeymoon was a disaster) and would desperately like to make it the best trip possible. Could use info regarding RH food and activities. Additionally, we would like to do the following: (1) visit ruins, (2) snorkel, (3) horseback riding, (4) shopping, (5) sightseeing. Any recommendations/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Would appreciate restaurant suggestions as well. Any thoughts on the weather?

Cindy:
Some of the stuff I wrote on the Royal Hideaway for my family's 1-8 July 2000 trip is in Archive4 on this board; but here are the links:

If you scroll down the board, there are lots of posts about the ruins (Tulum, Chichen Itza, Coba), how best to visit (tours or private vans); snorkeling (Akumal, cenotes, or ferry to Cozumel); some horseback; and lots of tours. I would heartily recommending purchasing the PDC and Cozumel map (~$7USD each)--cheap, and allow you to sort things out before you arrive. E-mail me with Qs about RH--it was the best vacation I have ever experienced; but definitely laid back. You'll need to hit a couple of PDC night spots (5 minutes by cab) for that (Requiem, etc.). Be prepared to be pampered at RH!
