Re: El Dorado Royale/Spa & Resort and Captain Lafitte?Posted by Eric in KC on August 02, 2000 at 13:22:00: In Reply to: El Dorado Royale/Spa & Resort and Captain Lafitte? posted by Bob Bozza on August 01, 2000 at 21:46:37: I can't speak to the other two, but my wife and I stayed at El Dorado Resort & Spa this past February with two other couples. All of us had a great time. The grounds are well manicured, and we thought the food was good (especially the Mexican ala carte restaurant). The buffets also had good selections, with very good service, and the bartenders were exceptional. The rooms are nice, standard-Mexican hotel quality. This means clean, tile floors, very firm beds, towels folded into swans, flowers, etc... Each room has a balcony or patio, with hammock. Some of the rooms also have a jacuzzi, although ours didn't. If you choose this resort, insist on an oceanfront room!!! The beach right in front of the hotel is not great for swimming, due to rocks and coral, though the snorkeling right off the small pier is pretty good. Take a large insulated cup with you, fill it up with your favorite beverage at the beach bar, and walk about 1/2 mile down to a perfect, almost deserted, swimming beach in front of the turtle preserve. I definitely recommend this hotel, if you're looking for a quiet AI. There isn't much going on after dark, so it isn't a really party atmosphere. Good luck. I only wish I was having to choose which one to stay in!!!
