El Dorado Resort/Spa Trip Report

: we just returned from our honeymoon 7/17-7/21. The Resort is beautiful, surrounded by coconut trees and hibiscus. After waiting in line at customs in Cancun for 1 hour, we were treated like royalty at the resort. Champagne awaited us in our huge jr. suite which was 2 levels - nice big bathroom with absolutely NO sewage smell. The floor was a nice marble/travertine and was cleaned daily by maids who wrapped towels in shapes of hearts, swans and left hibiscus petals on them and around our bed. We had a beautiful view of the ocean and a nice hammock too. No problems with A/C...the showers were on the cooler side, but didnt bother us at all after being in the sun. The reef is in front of the hotel, so you can snorkel there - it is very nice. The swim beach is nice too, and you can always find a lounge chair on the beach or at the pool. It was nice to look as far down the beach as you could and NOT see any other resorts. We felt like we were on our own island!! The drinks were great (loved the ElDorado special) we drank some nice italian white wine that was bottled/corked - excellent. All the food, lobster too was wonderful. We liked the italian and mexican options too- we just ate tooo much! Our special dinner on the beach was incredible. They even made a heart-shaped cake that had happy honeymoon with our names on it! Service was excellent too. We loved the mexican style buildings as opposed to hi-rise resorts we have stayed at. We truly felt like we were in Mexico. There was entertainment each night, the beach games were fun and we watched a show on all the island dances which was nice. We dont do alot of "partying" so this was just perfect for us. The mornings there are so beautiful. We plan to go back - hate to tell everyone how nice it is as we want to keep that a secret! PS-- Many folks had transferred over from the Royale to the Resort since the Royale was in a mess.
