(You might want to consider that option.) I think the location is ideal. Very close to 5th Avenue, but the beach seemed less traveled than north of the ferry dock. We spent a lot of time on 5th Avenue, but then went back to Xaman-Ha and it was very relaxing. The beach on the south end of Xaman-Ha (public)is where we spent most of our beach time. The ocean floor is very sandy and easy to walk on. We did go into the Continental Plaza and it looked nice. We have stayed at the PV Continental Plaza and liked that. I believe the security issue was related to items being stolen from the room safe. I think that is the only incident at the Plaza that I have read about on this board since February. We had a room safe at Xaman-Ha and that no problems whatsoever. I would definitely go there and feel safe and comfortable. For a better bargain, I would consider staying next door at Xaman-Ha. The pool areas are comparable, and you get lots more space for the same amount or less money. We had a kitchen, but the food is so good in Playa, that we never cooked! There are so many nice places to stay, that it is hard to choose. Have fun! We look forward to going back next winter.
