Got a strange question about the El Dorado Resort and Spa

Haven't read this one on the boards! A friend of mine said we shouldn't get a first floor room because of rodents and I'm talking the large kind. He said that in the Bahamas there were rats. Will it be safe to open the patio door reguardless?I'm a novice at this sort of thing. After reading the boards now for a month, I'm convinced that you can help with this one.
Also, anyone feel like doing a trip report on this resort. I'm referring to the old El Dorado, not the new one. I'd love to hear more about it. Hubby and I are going in November to celebrate our 10th!
