On the edge of the airport public parking lot facing the Thrifty drop off point, is a bus station. It consists of a motor home without wheels with a blue canopy attached. Under the canopy are a couple wooden benches. They have buses into Cancun(el centro)for $40 pesos each. The buses run every 15 minutes from 6am to midnight. From the downtown bus station you can get a first class bus to Playa del Carmen for $28 pesos. You need to know that this is a one-way deal. You cannot do it in the reverse. Your best bet is to catch a transport back to the airport from Playa for about $13USD.
