The taxis from the Iberostar to the taxi stand at 5th Avenue
cost 35 pesos each way. We usually gave 40 pesos or $4US to
include a tip. If possible share with another couple or anyone
else that you see waiting for a taxi at the Iberostar lobby. The
latest that we took a taxi from town was around 11:30pm but they go
later than that, I'm just not sure how late. The 5th Avenue area of
Playa del Carmen is very safe and lots of people are there late in the
evening. There are lots of outdoor restaurants with music playing, so it's
a lively place at night. I don't know if it's still that busy at 3am though!
There are lots of clubs downtown. There is Senor Frogs right by the ferry
terminal, The Blue Parrot has live reggae bands on the beach some nights and a
disco with sand floor (I think ladies drink free on Thursday nites?). The disco
at the Iberostar is a lot of fun too. It starts at 11:30 and we stayed until 2am.
