We have been to the Iberostar twice now (Feb99 & Feb00) and have had a great time! Yes, the beach is sort of divided into upper and lower areas. There seems to have been quite a bit of beach erosion between 99 and 00, but it doesn't make the beach impossible to use. There are sandbag 'steps' that divide the 2 areas, more at the Quetzal side than at the Tucan. In some ways it's better this way because it levelled the lower beach out, so there isn't such a slant going into the water. In some areas the beach is narrower than others but we never felt overly crowded. You can usually always find a spot to sit where you aren't right next to someone. Most beaches in the area are dealing with some kind of beach erosion. The Iberostar beach definitely has the nicest and most shade with palapas. As for photocopying your documents, yes, it's a good idea to that before you travel anywhere. Leave a copy in a safe place at home or with a relative, and another copy in your suitcase separate from the originals. In case they are lost or stolen, you will have copies of numbers so they can be cancelled quickly if necessary. There is a great user-friendly safe in your room at the Iberostar, so keep all your papers in there. If you have any other questions about the Iberostar, you can e-mail me. Hope you have a great time. I will try and post a link to my photos below. Doris : After much research and reading more message boards than I ever knew existed , my husband and I have decided to go to the Iberostar in Feb. 2001. : This will be our first vacation ever , (13 years , one farm , and 3 kids later) a belated honeymoon. : I would like this trip to be just perfect and have heard nothing but good things about the Iberostar. I did just recently come across a posting that mentioned the beach was split in two levels and the level at the water was small and crowded. Any comments? I have also heard of problems with overbooking at other resorts in this area. Is this a problem at the Iberostar? : Also any other general travel advice would be appreciated. For example some people tell you to split your belongings over two suitcaes in case one gets lots and to photocopy your passport and keep copies in suitcases , carry on luggage and at home. Is all this really necessary? : Thanks : harriet
