Can't tell you about the Club Maya - never been there.
Some basics about ARP:
*It was lovely.... lush tropical setting... thatched roofs... very quiet most of the time... very relaxing... very clean
* No AC in the main lobby and buffet... got pretty warm in the afternoon / evening.
* Beautiful beach with shower to rinse off in.
* Great "snack bar" by the pool from 12- 5 pm (our last day they started keeping it open til 1 am and I hope they continue that). We ate most of our meals there (had "early dinner" at about 4:45 just before they closed): burgers, chicken fingers, french fries, nachos, mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, quesadillas, potato wedges, pizza, salads, fruits and light deserts.
* Never did the evening buffet because of the "no AC" thing...
* Bikes near the main lobby with baskets (some had baby seats) so you can "run" into town (about 10 minutes to PDC by bike. Nice little "strip" shopping area about 2 minutes from the resort (turn LEFT as you come out of the resort... right around the corner though you cant SEE it cuz of the trees). They had just about everything there... liquor store, restaurants, beachwear, clothes, convenience store, you name it...
* terrible water pressure in the showers. Our group had 3 rooms in 3 different buildings, all were the same. hot water came and went... we were usually hot so it didnt really matter...
* Free drinks... we brought our own BIG plastic jugs so we didnt have to refill as often...
* Wonderful, friendly pool staff and bartenders. I miss those bartenders already. Matter of fact ALL of the staff was GREAT except Wendy at the front desk. She was cold and aloof and I really think she hates tourists. Not just Americans, she was cold to everyone. She should be fired.
* Tour desk quite helpful ... booked our "Fury Catamaran Snorkal Tour" which we LOVED!!! ... very nice pretty lady... she can get you a rental car too. ANYTHING you want to do they can arrange. Parasailing, dive lessons, snorkeling, you name it, they can do it or arrange it right there. This is a truly great service since they are only gonna hook you up with reliable people (EVERYONE down by the pier will want to take you diving, snorkeling, yada yada yada..)
* If you want to eat at the mexican, italian or chefs special restaurants you MUST make reservations well in advance. No "walk-ins" even if they don't look busy.
* Continental breakfast room service only - starting at 7 AM.
* On a scale of 1 - 10 judging as an American I would give it a 6.
Good luck deciding!!

: Can't decide which one, any suggestions?
