: My family will be cruising to Cozumel this July and we are thinking of snorkeling
: at Chankanaab Lagoon. Is it worth it? Can't seem to find much out about it. Also is there a beach
: there that my wife would enjoy while my sons and I are on the water?
: Please help me out on this because the cruise line
: doesn't offer this excursion. Is the lagoon hard to get to from the port?

Chankanaab Lagoon is a very beautiful snorkeling area. There is lots of great corals including purple fan coral and a large variety of fish including baracuda. There is a sand beach area above the snorkeling areas where your wife can sit in the many beach chairs they provide. there also is a area there where you can swim with the dolphins for a extra fee. The taxi from the port to the lagoon will be about $6-$10 you should bargain for the cheapest fair. I also highly
recommend Playa Corona, this is a little restaurant/bar that is about a mile down the road from Chankanaab. This place has the most beautiful shallow reef. The water is about 10-15 feet deep in most areas so you are only a few feet away from the coral and fish in all areas. The best thing about corona is it's not crowded like the park and it is free (if you buy soda/beer or rent snorkel gear. The taxi ride there should be about the same price. I hope this has been helpful to you and have a great trip. WE will be staying on the mainland in Playa del Carmen in may and hope to make a day trip back to Corona. David & Audrey
