There's a little hut on the beach (private by the way) that you can take snorkeling gear, sea kayaks, etc. The snorkeling right off the resort is amazing! Talk to some help or strike up a conversation with fellow guests on the day's "hot spot". They'll point you to the right area to explore.
Honestly, I could go from our room to the equip hut to the reef in under five minutes. That includes stopping for a refreshing beverage on the way. The resort is private. The beach is private. Very secluded and relaxing.
Service and food were awesome. We were treated like royalty by the employees.
There are a couple different restaurants to eat in that serve different menus every day. I recommend the outdoor seating provided around sunset. It's breathtaking, and the ocean breeze helped to take the sting out of my sunburn.
One restaurant requires reservations. It's worth the effort to get on the list a few nights. A little more exotic fare by candlelight with more formal attire. By formal I mean khakis and a shirt. Very nice.
The rooms are very nice and clean. Typical Mexican decor... marble floors, painted adobe walls. They are cleaned every day. Our maid always left fresh flowers around the place. Not extravagent, but quaint and clean. You won't spend that much time indoors anyway. Although we did utilize our hammocks quite a bit at night. You won't believe the stargazing that's available.
As you can tell from my post, we loved the place. We were on Honeymoon and did not want to fight the crowds of Cancun or Cozumel. El Dorado is a peaceful and beautiful resort. It's large enough to really spend some alone time, yet small enough that it's easy to get to know other guests. We had awesome conversations with guests from all over the world in the bars at night.
Hope this is helpful. You can e-mail me directly at jmedick@excite.com if you have any other questions.

: Jason,

: Thanks so much for your reply. You mentioned great snorkeling in your post. Do you mean right at the resort or just in the area? Also, how would you rate the service, food, and rooms?

: Thanks again,

: Tim
